CIEH Level 2 Award in Fire Safety Principles

Who is this course for?
The CIEH Level 2 Award in Fire Safety is suitable for all employees and those with the role of Fire Marshal/Warden whose responsibility may include safely using fire extinguishers within the workplace. The qualification can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements, although all experience gained within a variety of workplace settings is relevant to the course and useful to each candidate to gain a greater understanding of Fire Safety.

What will I study?

This course gives a sound understanding of fire hazards, the nature and spread of fire and how it starts. This is complimented by understanding fire extinguishers, their type, use and importantly when not to use them and evacuate. Fire evacuation, fire drills and assembly point control is explained and each candidate is given a sound knowledge of the current guidelines and regulations.
The qualification covers the following topics:

  • Fire Precautions Regulations/Legislations
  • Fire Notices and key fire safety duties under the law
  • Causes of fire in the workplace
  • Characteristics of fire and smoke spread
  • Fixed fire-fighting systems
  • Safety features within buildings
  • Action on discovering a fire
  • Human behaviour in a fire situation
  • Calling the Fire Service
  • Hazard spotting/hazard reduction
  • Fire Risk Assessment
  • Evacuation procedures and means of escape
  • Evacuating people with special needs
  • Extinguishing fires
  • Safe use of extinguishers
  • Record Keeping

How will I be assessed?
The course is 6 hours in duration and is completed by a 30 question multiple choice paper which is marked by the awarding body CIEH.

What can I do after the course?
It is recommended that this qualification be renewed every 3 years to comply with changes in legislation and good practice. The award is both nationally and internationally recognised.
