CIEH Level 2 Award in the Principles of Manual Handling

Who is this course for?
The CIEH Level 2 Award in the Principles of Manual Handling is suitable for personnel from all working environments who will be engaged in manual handling activities, whether on an occasional or regular basis.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements, although all experience gained within a variety of workplace settings is relevant to the course and useful to each candidate to gain a greater understanding of the Principles of Manual Handling.

What will I study?

  • The costs of manual handling-related injury in the work place
  • The anatomy and make up of the Spine, Vertebrae, Discs, Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments & Nerves and how damage is caused
  • Dynamics of the back and how manual handling places immense strain on the body
  • The legal duties of employers and employees with regard to manual handling operations
  • Self assessment of manual handling operations considering the Task, the Individual, the Load and the Environment
  • How to lift and move loads safely with practical exercises to ensure techniques have been fully understood
  • Practical manual handling risk assessment

How will I be assessed?
The course is 6 hours in duration and is completed by a 30 question multiple choice paper which is marked by the awarding body CIEH.

What can I do after the course?
It is recommended that this qualification be renewed every 3 years to comply with changes in legislation and good practice. The award is both nationally and internationally recognised. A complementary qualification with this qualification is the level 2 Certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace, the next level to complete is the CIEH Level 3 Risk Assessment.
